BTC to USDT is how people step out of price swings without selling on an exchange: lock in a dollar value, pay someone in dollars, or hold stablecoins in their own wallet. The usual route is depositing BTC on an exchange, selling and withdrawing; this swap goes wallet to wallet, and the USDT lands on the Ethereum network.

How to swap BTC to USDT

  1. 1

Pick the receiving address first: an Ethereum address in a wallet you control, with the Ethereum main network selected. Add a few dollars of ETH there if you will move the USDT again later.

  2. 2

Enter the amount of BTC. The widget quotes the USDT you should receive and the cost before you sign anything.

  3. 3

Connect the wallet that holds your bitcoin and paste your Ethereum address as the destination.

  4. 4

Approve the payment. The conversion begins when Bitcoin confirms it, about one block, and the dollar stablecoin appears at your Ethereum address a little later.

Why swap BTC to USDT this way

No KYC, no account

There is nothing to sign up for: no account, no email and no identity check. You swap straight from your own wallet. Like every on-chain transaction, it is public on the blockchain.

Decentralized and non-custodial

Your funds never sit with RUNEBond or with an exchange. You sign the transaction in your own wallet and the USDT arrives straight at your address.

Cross-chain with native assets

Real BTC on Bitcoin in, real USDT on Ethereum out. No wrapped tokens and no IOUs: you receive the native coin in your own wallet.

Track every step

From the moment you confirm, you see where your swap is: BTC sent, confirmed, swap in progress, USDT delivered. No guessing.

Before you swap

Price on large amounts

Large swaps can get a slightly worse price and take longer than small ones. The widget shows the expected price impact and time before you confirm.

Refunds

If a swap cannot be completed, the BTC is refunded to the address it came from, minus network fees. Send from a wallet you control, never from an exchange.

Wrong destination address

The USDT goes to the address you enter, and it must be a Ethereum address. Blockchain transactions cannot be reversed: check the address before you confirm.

Confirmation time

The swap starts once Bitcoin confirms your transaction, so the total time depends on that network. The widget shows the estimate for your amount.

About Bitcoin (BTC)

Bitcoin is the first and largest cryptocurrency: a fixed-supply digital asset secured by proof-of-work mining. It lives on its own chain, and most ways of using it elsewhere mean handing it to a custodian or wrapping it into a token on another network.

A native cross-chain swap skips both. The BTC leaves your own wallet on the Bitcoin network and the coin you want arrives in your wallet on its own chain, with no exchange account and no wrapped token in between.

  • Send from a wallet you control, not from an exchange withdrawal: if the swap is refunded, the BTC goes back to the address it came from.
  • Bitcoin network fees move with demand. The widget sets the fee for you; a fee set too low can delay the confirmation the swap waits for.

About Tether USD (USDT)

USDT is a stablecoin issued by Tether: a digital token that Tether says is pegged one to one with the US dollar and backed by its reserves. It is built on several blockchains, and this page covers the version that lives on Ethereum.

Unlike BTC or ETH, it is a token, not the native coin of its network. A native cross-chain swap lets you pay in your own coin and receive that token in your own wallet, with no exchange account in between. A stablecoin tracks the dollar by design, but it is still a crypto asset and carries the risk of its issuer.

  • This is USDT on the Ethereum network. The same token also exists on other networks, and an address that works on one can look identical on another. Make sure your wallet is set to the Ethereum main network, or the USDT will not show up even though it has arrived.
  • Sending any token on Ethereum costs a network fee paid in ETH. Keep a little ETH in the receiving wallet if you plan to move the USDT afterwards.
  • Send from a wallet you control, not from an exchange withdrawal: if the swap is refunded, the USDT goes back to the address it came from.

Frequently asked questions

How long does a BTC to USDT swap take?

Bitcoin produces a block roughly every ten minutes, so a swap from BTC starts once your transaction has at least one confirmation. Larger amounts can wait for a few more. USDT here is a token on the Ethereum network, so it lands in your wallet once Ethereum confirms the transaction, which takes moments. A swap from USDT starts after you sign and Ethereum includes your transaction in a block. The widget shows the estimated total time for your amount before you confirm.

What address do I need to receive USDT?

A Ethereum address in a wallet you control. An address from another network will not work.

Do I need an account to turn BTC into USDT?

No. There is no sign-up, no email and no ID check: you pay from your own wallet and receive in your own wallet. The two transactions are public on their blockchains, as with any on-chain transfer.

Which network does the USDT arrive on?

The Ethereum main network. Use an Ethereum address from a wallet you control. Sending to an address on a network the wallet does not support can make the funds hard or impossible to recover, so check the network before you confirm.

Is my Bitcoin wrapped or bridged into a token along the way?

No. Your native BTC is swapped for USDT, which is a token on Ethereum by nature. Nothing is minted against your Bitcoin and it does not sit in a bridge.

Is USDT the same as holding dollars?

No. USDT is a token issued by Tether that aims to track the dollar. It depends on the issuer and its reserves, so it carries a risk that a bank balance does not, and it is not financial advice to hold it.

What if the conversion cannot finish?

The BTC is sent back to the address it came from, minus network fees. RUNEBond never holds your funds at any point, which is why you pay from a wallet you control and not from an exchange.
